Gone Fishin' and Little Sparrow in The Park: August 10, 2013!

Don't  reel round in circles wondering where the summer's gone!  Join your friends and neighbors  in The Callicoon Creek Park for our third concert of the season on August 10, 2013.

The Gone Fishin' Band takes the stage at 8:00 PM with a mix of Country, Folk and Rock that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a pop in your step.  But that's not all...Little Sparrow is bringing their   joy mojo back to the Park for the second year in a row.

As Jonathan Fox -- a great friend to  community groups in  Sullivan County --  said in his recent River Reporter piece,

Volunteer-driven and incredibly bucolic (another fine word) this series is not to be missed and only here for a short while, so I would advise checking it out. The website suggests that one “bring a friend, get comfy in a chair or spread a blanket; there’s nothing like a concert under a River Basin sky,” and I heartily concur. It also suggests that we could “come early to help set up” or “stay late and help with clean up; it’s really more fun than it sounds.” I did neither, but would like to next time, since none of it happens magically and the fine folks who work tirelessly to create the concerts for all to enjoy could certainly use the help (even from me).

(Please read more About Our Park Performers and be blown away by the amazing talent right here in the River Basin!)

July 27th: Janet Burgan and BBQ Bob and The Spareribs

Check it out!  Jonathan Fox gave us a rave in the River Reporter  just ahead of our second concert of the season on July 27th!  Bring the kids,  your wading shoes,  a picnic, blanket and chair and settle in for another happy musical romp in the Park:

Meanwhile, on the banks of the glorious Delaware River, Dharma and I attended the opening night of the fourth annual celebration of music, “Under the Moon in Callicoon,” as the few remaining fireflies flickered, undoubtedly drawn to “Shift” and “Swoosh” aka “Light Expo,” who lit up the night with their fiery display in conjunction with musical performances by the highly entertaining Elizabeth Rose (www.elizabethrosemusic.com) and Brewster Smith. They were followed by the ever-popular Doug Rogers and Hoy Polloy (www.facebook.com/doug.rogers). While Dharma cavorted with her four-legged pals, I schmoozed with friends, snapped some pics and basked in the glorious experience that this concert series (www.callicooncreekpark.blogspot.com) provides. With a nice variety of upcoming concerts scheduled, and with summer being fleeting, I plan to be under the moon in Callicoon a few more times. “Momentary, brief, impermanent and short-term?” Let’s get out there and do as much as we can!

Perk Up Parkies!

The Callicoon Creek Park Association is dusting off winter cobwebs, counting robins (three so far!) and getting ready for our

Fourth Annual Plant & Seed Swap & Sale
May 25, 2013 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Which means it's time for all our gardening friends to start thinking about the kinds of extra veggie and flower plants you'll be sharing with the newbies and pros who make this Swap one of their first Spring stops.

Last year, we had bushes, saplings (trees), houseplants and a ton of veggie plants donated, swapped (or purchased) by our gardening friends and neighbors.  (To find out more about the Swap, how it helps the Park and ways to participate,  please read here.)

And like last year, we've got some special treats planned:

Master Gardener, Will Conway will answer your planting and care questions

Artist and Teacher, Linda Bastian,  will be in the Children's Art Tent

Performance Artist, Ramona Jan and Her Marionettes will be on our NEW  stage

The Plant Swap is also a great time to root through your old gardening tools and if you plan to replace any,  think about donating the old for use by our wonderful Job Corps kids and other volunteers during  Park Clean Up Days.

If you can't be with us the day of the Swap but want to share the fruits of your labor,  please email us at  Ljbucar@earthlink.net or give us a ring at  845-887-3105.

And....HAPPY SPRING!!!

PS   News coming soon about all the great local performers who'll be taking the stage for our Under the Moon in Callicoon summer concert series.

Concert-goer Sings Park's Praises

If you didn't see Maureen Neville's  letter to the editor about her experience at the Callicoon Creek Park concert on July 7th, here ya' go:

Summer in our small corner of the world seems to go by much too quickly. In my effort to savor these glorious summer days, I attended one of the Under the Moon concerts in Callicoon last Saturday night. Despite the threat of ominous weather, an appreciative and enthusiastic crowd turned out. Families and friends sat on their blankets and chairs on the Callicoon Creek Park lawn. Picnic tables were covered in vintage tablecloths with vases of flowers, and candles were lit as darkness fell. I spotted one little girl dancing in her pajamas, all ready to roll into bed when the night wore down. It was a true feeling of community.

Two local bands, Hoy Polloy and Little Sparrow, shared the Park stage for the sultry summer evening. Both bands featured incredibly talented musicians and the audience was treated to some fine harmonies. There was a bit of magic in the air Saturday night that I can’t seem to capture in words. Maybe you had to be there.

Catch the next concert in this series on Saturday, July 21, featuring Elizabeth Rose and Brewster Smith plus The Raddyos. Come out and enjoy some great music “Under The Moon” in Callicoon.

Join Maureen and the whole Park crew  on July 21st at 8:00 pm for Elizabeth Rose and Brewster Smith and The Raddyos!

Don't forget,  if you eat at Cafe Devine on Lower Main Street in Callicoon the night of the Concert,  the Cafe will donate 10% of your meal cost to the Park!

Cleanup and Weeding at the Park Continues . . .

For those of you on your way to Pecks on Monday morning or stopping in at Landers you may have noticed a few of us in the Park hunched over some of the beds.  We began weeding--with much more weeding to do. Anyone interested in helping?  Please see our Want to Volunteer or Donate? page.

In mid-April a group of students from the Job Corps helped us with the initial cleanup.  Arranged by Patty Byrne, Community Liaison for the Job Corps, they worked really hard and had fun doing it . . . and the Park's appearance improved greatly. Maybe you noticed?
